Alexander Peck — Biography

Alexander Peck grew up in a country town in the state of Victoria, Australia. His parents had immigrated from Europe to Australia in 1950. After high school, Alexander entered Geelong Teacher’s College and became a qualified elementary teacher. He then studied school librarianship at Melbourne Teacher’s College.

In 1972, Alexander left Australia to study at Ambassador College, a small private Christian college in England. He completed his BA degree, with a theology emphasis, at the sister campus of Ambassador College in Pasadena, California. He also completed a one-year ministerial education program. Finally, while living in Pasadena, Alexander went on to complete an MA degree in education (with an emphasis in instructional design) at California State University, Long Beach.

While living in California, Alexander worked in a corporate setting and was involved in documentation writing, editing, and job training.

Between 1993 and 2001, Alexander lived in the Czech Republic where he taught English to first-year university students at the Prague University of Economics and Business (VSE).

After two more teaching positions overseas, again involving the teaching of English to first-year university students (South Korea between 2001-2005 and Saudi Arabia between 2005-2007), Alexander returned to his home in Thornlands in 2007.

While in South Korea, in addition to his full-time teaching, Alexander pursued PhD studies in Christian education at Hoseo University, a private Christian university in Cheonan City. He completed all the required course work and successfully passed the qualifying examinations. However, due to a number of circumstances at the time, he was unable to complete his doctoral work which was on the topic of “The Spirituality of Jan Amos Comenius”. (Comenius was a Moravian philosopher, pedagogue and theologian and has been considered the father of modern education.)

Between 2007 and 2010, Alexander completed two further Master’s degrees in Theology through distance education with the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, specialising in Christian spirituality.

In 2011, as part of a lifelong interest in theology and spirituality, Alexander began an earnest study of Buddhism — and finding therein a rich source of spiritual knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.

Now in his seventies, Alexander values his quieter and peaceful lifestyle with his wife, Eva, on the bay side of city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He cherishes the opportunity to devote more of his time to spiritual pursuits, including the sharing of insights into life via his writing and website creation.

Study, Reflect, Meditate

EVENING RECITATION (Zen Tradition)
Let me respectfully remind you:
Life and Death are of supreme importance.
Time swiftly passes by and opportunity is lost.
On this night, the days of our life are decreased by one.
Each of us should strive to awaken.
Awaken! Take heed! Do not squander your life.
